Sometimes you just need to start over...

Tomorrow, we (Jason and I) are beginning a detox. I don't know how long we will last or how well it's going to work but I am doing a diary here of the whole thing in order to stay motivated.

I have created my own modified version of the CLEAN detox, which typically lasts 21 days. I'll spare you all the details but here is a list of things you can/can't eat and some sample recipes. Here are some even better sounding recipes. Its pretty simple...you only eat natural and hypoallergenic foods. Get it?  CLEAN.

We are modifying because:

1. We don't eat meat/fish
2. I didn't want to take tons of pills a day
3. CLEAN supplements are repackaged and rather than pay the markup I just purchased my own (but they have to be all natural/vegetarian/soy/dairy free). For those needing additional support by all means purchase via CLEAN.

I did a lot of research and will be taking the following ones that are the most crucial to the detox:

Why not a juice cleanse?
I have done many juice cleanses in the past, including Blueprint (3x), Cooler Cleanse, Jill Pettijohn and Organic Avenue (2x). Taste-wise, some were better than others, but the end result is always the same: you come away feeling un-bloated, energized, and healthy.  Personally, I only like doing them a few times a year and for me they are more of a quick fix (with long lasting benefits). Juicing (when organic, low-sugar and fresh) does wonders for your health so in an ideal world I would have at least one a day but its more like three-four a week.

These days I am more focused on testing different long-term diets to see what works for my body. I have had chronic stomach problems most of my life and have yet to find an answer. Doctors tell me to take antacids or to eat more Dannon yogurt, which is really a joke at this point. I also have a long history of anxiety and am doing everything in my power to not overmedicate myself. Over the last few years I have made half-ass attempts at going gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free…but nothing has quite stuck. I haven't had red meat in 17 years, poultry in 9 years, and fish in 6 years (except for one trial encounter this summer). I was vegan for two years in 2005-2007. But something is still off and I'm hoping its not because I drink too much wine. To make a really long story short, I am doing this detox to get to the bottom of everything. Jason is along for the healthy ride. I'll keep track of our meals and thoughts and include some pretty pictures.  You'll watch and hopefully enjoy!

Food Revolution and Us

We have been busy...way too busy.  Between planning our wedding (in 23 days!) to taking on some big new clients and projects...its been hard to maintain the blog.  But its all happening...for real.
One thing you can do in the meantime is support Jamie Oliver and his "Food Revolution Day," which is tomorrow, May 19th. If you don't already know that its important to care about what you eat, read more here.
